What is WANTAGE SUMMER FESTIVAL?

We are a grassroots Festival initiated over 20 years ago by local community groups to unite under mutual values of community, respect and inclusiveness to promote local summer events. We are a platform for all summer events happening in Wantage and the area.

We are a voluntary organisation, small charity supported by the local authorities and occasionally additional sponsors. Our work is done by two voluntary executive members of our Committee (who dedicate over 200 voluntary hours each year towards the Festival). We also have additional Committee members meeting quarterly to ensure accountability and transparency of out work. All our raised funds are dedicated to promotion of the amazing work done by our local community groups and businesses.

We focus primarily on collecting information about summer events, publishing it in form of a printed programme and promotion of those events online. We do not support event organising and sales of tickets, but we raise awareness about those events and tickets availability.

WHO CAN ORGANISE AN EVENT WITH WANTAGE SUMMER FESTIVAL?

Anyone. You can be an individual, group of individuals, non-for-profit organisation or commercial organisation. Our festival is open to all.

We do our best to include all events organised within the dates of our Festival but we kindly ask you to ensure that your event benefits the local community of Wantage and the area.

CAN WANTAGE SUMMER FESTIVAL COMMITTEE HELP ME ORGANISE AN EVENT?

Wantage Summer Festival Committee does not organise events – we offer support in promotion of already organised events. However if you contact us we might be able to advise you on available venues, event management tips, promotion. We have in the past put potential organisers in touch with local venues and other organisations.

WHEN DO I NEED TO REGISTER MY EVENT?

Our events registrations open on the day of Wantage Dickensian Evening (in 2016 it’s 2 December). If you wish your event to be featured in our printed programme we will need to have all the information about it by the end of February. Our printed programme is usually designed and published in early April. You can still register events afterwards – all the way until the end of May – and we can still help you with digital and word of mouth promotion, but we cannot include your event in our printed programme.

I HAVE REGISTERED MY EVENT – WHAT NEXT?

We will email you as soon as we can. Normally we aim to respond the same week but if we have a lot of registrations to process we might take a bit more time – please be patient with us or email wantagesummerfestival@gmail.com to check the status of your registration. Once we have all the required information we will create your event on our website and ad it to our printed programme design. We will also ad you to our Newsletter for Organisers so you will receive updates from us at least once a month over email. This is how we will inform you about our pre-Festival briefing meeting so please do look out for our emails. We are also sending our news to press and to social media channels, but the email is our central point of contact. When we have our programme design ready we will ask you to check your entry. When we receive the printed copies and additional promotional materials, we will also get in touch. If you opt in for media passes our journalists and digital journalists will contact you directly. We might visit your event – but we cannot promise it – so please do take photos and send them to us to promote your organisation through Festival channels. After the Festival we will organise a feedback meeting – this usually happens in September. And in December we will open new registrations – for the 2018 Festival.
